When I was looking around for banking IT jobs, I knew that I was going to have to dress up my resume. Of course, it had been a while since Id gone over it and made any significant updates. Looking over it, I was actually quite shocked at how dated it was. Id worked two jobs that weren’t even on there, and the language with which I described myself was rather silly as well. I sounded like I was begging for a job, essentially, and that’s never what an employer wants to see. Once I dressed up my resume, made my updates, and made the language flow a little better, I felt infinitely better about sending it out for consideration. I didnt feel as though I was begging for a job anymore; I felt like a qualified applicant appealing to a company. In a phrase, I guess you could say that I felt like Id finally grown up and entered the adult, professional world.

I really just wanted to take a year off and get a job, and one thing lead to another. I got married, we had two children and I never got the chance to go to college. Now, with all the layoffs coming down in my company I’ve had to start getting serious about getting some kind of additional education so I can really take care of my family better. I saw an article online about IT training and it looked pretty exciting. Studies show that there aren’t enough people that have the right skills to do all of the jobs that are open in the various specialties like website development, IT security, networking, programming and the like. I was worried about how I could even get this sort of job without any experience but read that if you have one of the IT certifications you would have a pretty good chance at one of these job since that diploma was proof you could do the job.
