What is the Coventry Conversation Lecture Series?
by Dempsey Hunt

It’s been three years since Delphic Books began The Coventry Conversation Lecture Series and asked me to be the floor manager for them.

The Coventry Conversation Lecture Series is a series of talks, free and open.  Yes.  But what is it for?

To answer what it is, and touch on what it is becoming, I have to go back several years (or perhaps yesterday) to when I had my own experience of longing for something which would fulfill a desire in me to “be more…”

At that time, I didn’t know where or how to accomplish this.  I thought that I would need certain information to tell me “where in the world to go”.  I started to look in places for clues, mostly in books.

Delphic Books was one of the places I looked.

Over time, I discovered that what was real and vibrant was closer and simpler than what my imagination conjured up.

This is the premise behind The Coventry Conversation Lecture Series.

It is a series of lectures that brings serious spiritual and healing practitioners to Delphic Books on the third Sunday of each month.  We give them the floor, introduce them, hear them speak about their experience from the perspective of their diverse spiritual traditions, and ask them questions.  We’ve just begun to film the speakers, hopefully to make their traditions available to a broader community via public access cable.

These practitioners are from nearby communities, closer by than most expect, and the opportunity for a person to participate in these traditions is more available than most imagine.

The majority of the presenters encourage the attendees to develop their own innate abilities, and they usually demonstrate some basic techniques from their tradition. Although necessarily rudimentary given the public forum we are in, the techniques encourage further investigation of the discipline presented or allow the listener to improve his or her current condition.

Some presenters have, at times, distributed fliers or business cards or answered questions about fees for trainings or workshops, but these have come at the end of the presentations in response to those who expressed interest and did not constitute the focus of the lecture.

Some presenters have had publications available for sale.

This is, once again, to provide further information on their particular practice and not for promotion.

The Coventry Conversations have sought to be (and seemingly is becoming) a forum to encourage an exchange of ideas between open-minded individuals, to help spread more light; it is not offered from a desire to promote one discipline or school of thought over another.

We invite you to attend, to search and maybe to find a clue toward “being more”.
